Blur BG

One tap. The room goes soft, the person stays sharp.

The subject is found on your phone and everything behind it is blurred, like a portrait lens would do it. Drag the slider for how much.

  • AI subject detection
  • Intensity slider
  • Radial and linear blur
Face Blur · Shape Blur

Every face found. A plate hidden where you point.

Face Blur puts a blur on each face and gives it a chip, so one tap keeps a person sharp. For a number plate, Shape Blur drops a rectangle exactly where you place it, with a zoom loupe.

How it works

Four steps, none of them fiddly

  1. Open a photo

Pick one from your library. The home screen puts every blur one tap away: Touch Blur, Face Blur, Blur BG, Shape Blur, Full Blur, Lens Blur.

  2. Tap Face Blur or Blur BG

Faces get found and blurred, each with its own chip so you can keep one sharp. Blur BG finds the subject and softens everything behind it. For a number plate or a card, draw a Shape Blur over it.

  3. Pick the effect and how strong

Blur, pixelate or mosaic, or one of the 45+ effects. Drag the intensity slider; the preview updates as you go. Brush with Unblur to bring back anything the app shouldn't have touched.

  4. Save, or keep editing

Save it to Photos or share it straight away. Or carry on in the same editor: filters, HDR, crop, text, stickers, a collage or a template.

01 · Face blur

Every face found. You choose which stay.

AI Face Blur looks at the whole photo and puts a blur on each face it finds, including the small ones at the back. Every face becomes a chip at the bottom of the screen: tap one to leave that person sharp, drag the slider to decide how strong the blur is, and switch the style to mosaic or pixelate when you want it obvious that something was hidden.

For a number plate, a house number or a credit card, Shape Blur drops a rectangle or a circle exactly where you put it, with a zoom loupe so you can be precise.

02 · Background blur

Keep the subject. Soften the room.

Blur BG finds the person in the photo and blurs everything behind them, like a portrait lens would. Pull the intensity up for a dreamy background or down for a hint of depth. Radial and linear blur do the same thing for anything that isn't a person: a plate of food, a car, a product on a table.

03 · Touch blur & unblur

Paint it on. Wipe it off.

Touch Blur is a brush: drag over whatever should go, and the brush is offset from your fingertip so you can see what you're painting. Pinch to zoom in for the edges. Got a bit too much? Unblur brushes the original back, so a slip never costs you the photo.

04 · Blur effects

45+ blur effects, not one

Six families in the Effects strip: Basic, Bokeh, Glass, Distortion, Paint and Water. Inside them, Gaussian for a clean soft blur, pixelate and hexa for a censor, motion and zoom for speed, points and crystal for texture. Each one has its own intensity slider and previews on your photo as you tap through.

05 · Filters & editor

One editor. Every tool.

You don't leave the app to finish the photo. Filters in B&W, vintage, portrait and classic styles, an HDR pass, Split Color for RGB-split looks, crop and rotate, and Adjust for brilliance, denoise and the rest. Add text with your own fonts and colours, stickers, emojis, a drawing, or blend two photos into a double exposure.

Also in the strip: Redact for documents and IDs, ID Photo, AI Enhance and AI Unblur.

06 · Cut out & restyle

Cut it out. Restyle it.

Remove Background lifts the subject off the photo. Then give it a new one: a flat colour, a gradient, a pattern, a texture, or another photo. Product shots, profile pictures and marketplace listings come out of it with a clean background and nothing else in the frame.

Drop your photos into a template

Over 200 templates and frames: story collages for Instagram, photo collages, scrapbook pages, seasonal sets. Pick one, tap a slot, choose a photo, and move and scale it into place. Or build your own collage from a grid layout.

FAQ

Questions

How do I blur a face in a photo?

Open the photo in Blur Photo and tap Face Blur. Every face gets a blur and its own chip at the bottom; tap a chip to leave that face sharp. To blur a face by hand instead, tap Touch Blur and paint over it.

Can I blur only the background?

Yes. Tap Blur BG and the app finds the subject and blurs everything else. The intensity slider sets how soft the background gets. For something that isn't a person, use radial or linear blur, or Touch Blur with Unblur to clean up the subject.

I blurred too much. Can I undo part of it?

Yes. Unblur is a brush that paints the original back wherever you drag it, and there is undo and redo for every step. Zoom in to fix the edges.

Which blur effects are there?

More than 45, in six families: Basic (Gaussian, pixelate, hexa, motion, points, crystal, zoom), Bokeh, Glass, Distortion, Paint and Water. Plus mosaic and pixelate for censoring, and radial and linear blur for depth.

Does my photo get uploaded anywhere?

Face detection, subject detection and every blur effect run on your iPhone. Templates, backgrounds, fonts and stickers are downloaded from our servers when you pick them, and the credit-based AI tools such as AI Enhance send that one photo to a server to process it. The blur tools themselves work offline.

Is it free?

Blur Photo is free to download and use. Some effects, templates and tools are part of the premium membership, sold as a subscription or a one-time purchase inside the app, and a few AI tools use credits. Prices are shown in the app for your region.

Which devices does it run on?

iPhone and iPad on iOS 15 or later.

Post the photo. Keep the rest out of it.
